This bathroom project was
for an eight-year-old quadriplegic boy with Cerebral Palsy and no muscle
control. Completing the bathroom on the ground floor gives him a
wheelchair accessible bathroom and the ability to live in the bedroom
across the hall. Prior to this remodel, it was necessary to manually
move and shift him a minimum of seven times each morning to get him
ready for the day. Today, after the remodel, he needs to be lifted only
three times, and two of those times a new ceiling lift is used. One of
the more unique and functional additions was a custom made changing
table that allows the boy to be more thoroughly dried-off after bathing.
As the client says, "This remodeled bathroom makes bathing, toileting
and grooming so much easier on him as well as his caregivers. The custom
made changing table is a back saver and makes it possible to keep him
warm and dry while dressing." After this remodel, it will be possible
for the young man to live in this house for the rest of his life.
