The owner
of this two-story brick home—an attorney who commutes to DC from the
West Coast—bought this property with every intention to remodel. She
found the inside, especially the kitchen and bathrooms, cramped and
outdated, while the overall layout seemed constricted. Outside, she
thought the house’s facade failed to make the statement it deserved. The
homeowner’s ultimate goal: to modernize the house from top to bottom,
inside and out, and to establish an elegant flow that matched her
