This was whole house
remodel of a 1906 shotgun cottage on a 50' X 52' lot. The house is now
1000 sq. ft. on the main level with 450 sq. ft. of loft space
accommodating a guest bedroom and plumbed for a future guest bath.
Passive cooling along with heavy insulating facators eliminates the need
for air conditioning. Windows were placed to take advantage of the
prevailing breezes. In cooler weather, the stone floors act as a thermal
mass and retain heat from the day. Material and features include:
* Dual pane energy efficient exterior doors & windows were used.
* Rain gutters provide garden and landscape irrigation, and a
programmable drip watering system is installed to minimize water usage.
* All wood species are sustainable with no old growth or exotic woods
used.
* Countertops are sustainable and incorporate recycled materials.
* Low VOC coatings were used.
* All appliances are "Energy Star"
* All exterior and interior lighting uses energy efficient lamps.
