This fireplace feature is
all new, concealing what was old and cold about the house. The original
home had one entire wall of used brick as a fireplace feature, complete
with a cave-like log storage bin and high, deep brick hearth. This was
all removed except for the fire box and flue, and the log storage bin
became an exterior storage closet. The fireplace surround was designed
and built expressly for the owners. Thirty inches of width was gained in
the entire space with the removal of the hearth. a bright new maple wood
floor now connects this area to the kitchen.
