2011 Kitchen Remodel
Over $100K
Traditional kitchens in a typical colonial looking home are usually more
suited to a face frame type of cabinet system with inset doors. Other
obvious traditional finishes may include hardwood floors and period
hardware. In order to transition between a traditional and more modern
look, our architect chose the use of frameless cabinets to produce an
elegant European flair. Shaker doors were then selected to balance the
elements of a flush modern look and more traditional architecture. A
veined travertine floor (with a limited amount of etched glass) was also
used to bring creative freedom-yet with a nostalgic and modern feel. The
final transitional highlight was the use of straight grain rift sawn oak
wood panels that were placed around windows to bring depth and mass to
each window. Each panel was fitted with a concealed LED lighting strip
to help warm the space and bring a warm, comfortable ambience. Clear
glass lighting fixtures were selected to set the various materials off
in an attractive contrast. Upon completion, the owner’s wishes were more
than fulfilled by careful design and quality workmanship in the best
tradition of craftsmanship.
