This was a 558 square
foot second story addition of a new study/library, home office and
bathroom. To meet height requirements, they removed the existing roof
structure in the area of the addition. Lowered the bearing to 7’6" above
the existing floor and installed 4 X 8 beams. The clients had feared
that lowering the bearing of the first floor would result in a
claustrophobic feeling, however the addition of all the exposed wood has
made the rooms feel spacious, natural, and very warm.
