2007 Finished Basement
This basement was
remodeled to provide the homeowner with a finished children’s play
space, family entertainment room, bar and wine cellar. Due to the
infrastructure that had to go in place for the new mechanicals, they
took the idea of a stage and interior playhouse within a house. Using
that idea they could lower the ceiling, raise the floor and hide the
obstacles. The old basement had a cistern in it, so they used those old
bricks for the mechanical room floor and the wine cellar. For the wet
bar’s true divided light cabinet doors, they used the 200 year old
sashes from the house. To allow natural light, they put a glass block in
the outside deck to let natural light in through the window well. A 200
hear old house was brought ‘gently’ into the 21st century with the use
of stolen natural light, a playhouse to hide unattractive pipes, the
reuse of 200 year old bricks and window sashes, human scale home
entertainment equipment and built-ins.
